Not all links are equal. From the low quality ones to the highest authority sites, they are all giving different impacts.
Meanwhile, most of the public profile sites are considerably providing the low quality backlinks even when they are referred from great authority sites in industry.
To avoid misunderstanding, I need to get this straight for once of what I'm going to talk about.
What I mean about profile link building sites are websites whom bloggers or webmasters like you and me are possible to create a new public profile for the main purpose of filling in a link in that profile.
Think about your Facebook account. In your "Contact" info section, there you can put your blog URL so you can leverages it for a backlink.
But don't just stop there! If you are managing other social media accounts, don't forget to drop your link, too.
So do when you've got online forum and community accounts, check them out in case they have been providing the URL section to be filled in.
In practice, the more profile accounts you will create, the more backlinks you will get and will help in diversifying your blog's link profile since the referring domains will be vary.
If you think that profile links will help your search engine ranking, that will be too much. It is an effortless thing everyone can do.
If you can creates a single account under 5 minutes manually, so do the others.
In fact, there has been a tool or software like GSA SER that allowing its users to create many profiles in short amount of time automatically.

But, link on your social media profile or whatever websites you are participating actively may send you visitors in return.
Think about an online SEO forum you are actively being an authority contributor or keep on sharing valuable information. The other users may be encouraged to check your profile and click your site's link to get more information.
However, what if you can make hundreds of profile backlinks in two weeks? You are surely can't be an active contributor in all of these sites all the time, aren't you?
So, do they will still be valuable in taking part of your blogging development plan?
To answer this, I will give you an example in a relation of profile link building and how to measure the site authority using the Domain Authority (DA) metric from MOZ in case you are a fans of it.
On December 2019 ago, I managed another blog which its DA was around 9.
Then, on the same month, I hired someone to build profile links that only targeting my blog's homepage by spent around USD 10.
3 weeks later, DA score increased to 13 and even had been reached up to 15. Today, its DA is 12.
For me, build this type of link is boring to be honest and take times.
If each link will required 5 minutes of my time, then to get a hundred links will take around 8 hours. In reality, to create 100 links can even take a week since they will bored me to death.
That's why I decided to hire a service that have been given me the links more than I could created my self.
No matter how indifferent I am to these metrics, knowing that my blog's DA or DR is increasing, it is indeed giving me a confidence to offer a sponsored post in my blog.
So yes, 'till today, public profile links are still useful. Mostly, they won't bring you visitors, but they are useful in other parts of my blog in its development process.
That's why I don't care if today there will be another new service created on Fiverr about this. It may sounds laughable for some, but it still works.
Take a second look on above image, my blog is even only getting 48% of the referring domains. I am pretty sure if that will be 51% or more, I think that both DA and DR will be higher as well.
