Should You Avoid Blogspot For Blogging?

If you ask so-called expert bloggers or internet marketers about the best blogging platform to use, big chance that Blogger "Blogspot" platform by Google could be the last option on the list or even will never be mentioned.

I believe WordPress will be the top recommendation as it is still the most popular platform around the web along with other reasons such as:
  • It is good for your personal or business brand.
  • It will be a great platform to help in SEO.
  • Endless customization options, etc.
In short, I do agree that WordPress or other blog platforms will be chosen over Blogger for whatever reasons.

But, if there will be someone against Blogspot for debatable reasons, that one should never talking about blogging at all.

Why using Blogspot

In term of making money through blogging, any platforms are welcome.

If some bloggers telling you that Blogspot doesn't performs well on search engines to attract visitors, they must be forget how crowded the internet is.

WordPress is popular, but to be honest, there are thousands or even millions of bloggers making money with Blogspot that their visitors are mainly coming from search engines.

If we are comparing Blogspot and WordPress.com in making money, you will realize that WordPress is not supporting any kind of online advertisement platforms but its own that you will likely never earn anything.

Except you are going to build the self-hosted blog to do anything with WordPress which is also means you will need to take out money from your pocket.

So, screw them telling you that you should avoid using Blogspot. If I will following what the others are suggesting me to do, I probably will never blogging at all.

I love WordPress as well as you do. But to get a cheaper or affordable hosting plan, most of the providers are base on abroad countries in USA or Europe.

This mean that the payment processor can be an issue since me and many others don't even got a credit card and mostly the payment itself can't be processed through local bank.

While the others are struggling to save the money to buy domain and hosting, some others are dying to find a way to deal with payment processor. Not to mention that the cheapest WordPress plans and pricing itself is still quite expensive since all of them are billed yearly.

Getting domain and hosting from local providers can actually be the solution. But when the commercial side of blogging need quite some times, using Blogspot can be the starting point to experience how far it will takes us.

This can also be the reason why several blogs I found before that were built using WordPress are now migrating to Blogger. If they can't make money to cover the bills, they can still reduce the expenses by only spend for a domain name.

Next, DO NOT BELIEVE those who said that Blogspot will fail you in SERPs.

As an Indonesian, I have found so many search results that Blogspot or any platforms are on top of Google and other search engines. Both in my language as well as in English.

It is purely depending on how well we are optimizing our blog posts and pages both on-page and off-page optimization now matter how low or high the keyword's competitions are.

But if the others are keep on bragging about why WordPress blogs will likely on top performance in SERPs, it is understandable since WordPress is dominating the search results because of its popularity.

What if today to the next years, the most popular blog platform will be Blogspot? Don't you think that the SERPs will change too?

I am not trying to against any blogging platforms here.

But it is ok if you are starting your blog journey with Blogspot. You can always choose to migrate anytime if you want since it is also possible.

Doing that may reduce your site performance on Google, but it won't be the end of the world.

I have seen so many bloggers are doing that including myself. Start a blog with Blogger platform, buy new domain name, migrate to WordPress or else and we are all still fine.

But if you prefer to buy domain and hosting to build WordPress blog since the beginning while ready not to earn any money in its first year in case it will happened, plus you will still need to pay for its extend for the next year, feel free to do that.

Unfortunately, no matter how easy it is to create a blog and the posts, many of them said no due to the belief that they can't write. But in my opinion, they can't because they have no interest at all in blogging and that's good if they know what they don't want to do.
