Where is Wakatobi and How to Get There?

Have you been heard about what Wakatobi is? If not, let me tell you that it is an acronym of a regency located in South-East Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The name came from the short version and fusion of the most populated islands in Wakatobi recency which are:
  1. WAngi-Wangi or WAnci as the capital of the regency.
  2. KAledupa island.
  3. TOmia island, and;
  4. BInongko island.
That's the true.

Now you know where it is.

So, how to get there?

Where is Wakatobi and how to get there?

If you are about to visit Indonesia, you will probably be landed at Jakarta (capital of Indonesia country), Makassar at South Sulawesi as one of the most rapid develop in the eastern part of Indonesia, or your flight will mostly land in the beauty islands of Bali.

Wherever your flight will be landed, all of them is not a matter at all since most of the times, you will always get a chance to book the flight to Wakatobi and heading to Matahora Airport located in Wangi-Wangi.

But, sometimes, the flight may be directed to another city before and mostly it will be to Kendari as the main capital of South East Sulawesi province.

If you are requiring to travel by the ship, you can be on board from Kendari or Makassar. And then, you can arrive in Wakatobi. The thing is that, traveling by ship will take longer that can even cause you to be on the sea for days.

So, my very first recommendation is to go through the air or take a flight.

Why travelers are heading to Wakatobi?

There is one common reason why there are so many travelers are keep on visiting Wakatobi. It is because of the diving purpose where there are many dive sites around Wakatobi National Park as the park had been established since 2002 ago.

And by 2005, it then listed as tentative World Heritage Site by UNESCO. I am assuming one of the reasons why is that is not only because of the numbers of dive spots, but also of all the 850 species of identified coral reefs in the world, 750 of them are in Wakatobi.

It means that the marine life of the regency is full of richness so the more travelers especially scuba divers are putting Wakatobi in their own dive list to be visited one day.

Surely that are more reasons why many of them will need to visit Wakatobi, but I think I will talk about it later in another posts, hopefully.

For now, that's the answers of where is Wakatobi, how to get there and why travelers are visiting it regularly. Hope you like this post. Thank you.
