Wakatobi regency may not as busy as Bali when its comes to tourism. But, that could brings you an advantage as well when you are requiring less noises travel destination.

And if you are in love with scuba diving and snorkeling in tropical islands with so many underwater beauty, Wakatobi should be in your list to spend your next holiday since it has dozens of diving spot at the calmness archipelago.

If I had to list all the reasons why scuba divers have been falling in love to dive in Wakatobi, I am afraid that my whole day and even week wouldn't be enough to do that. But, it doesn't mean that I can mention some of them.

For those who have not known about where is Wakatobi and how to get there, it is a regency in South-East Sulawesi province-Indonesia. My best recommendation to get there is by air plane that will be landed in Matahora Airport at Wangi-Wangi (the capital of the regency).

For years, Wakatobi has also been popular for only two things in the whole of Indonesia's travelers, beautiful beaches with crystal clear water that can be reached in a walking distance and scuba diving destination.

1. Wakatobi is listed as one of the National Parks in Indonesia

Wakatobi regency is a small archipelago that has an area of 823 square kilometers. But the interesting thing is that its National Park is covering all parts of the regency from the land to the ocean.

If other national parks will only contain of certain areas of the regency, all areas in Wakatobi is part of national park.

2. One of the world’s biosphere reserves

To encourage the sustainable development in the world and demonstrate the balanced life between people and nature, there is a world's project made by UNESCO called as MAB (Man and Biosphere Reserve Programme) that covers internationally designated protected areas.

Today in 2019, Indonesia itself have been listed 16 National Parks where Wakatobi National Park itself was established it since 2002. Later in 2012, it then included as one of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

4. The Bajo’s tribe

A nomadic tribe living on the ocean. That's what the Bajo (Bajau) tribe is where its people are also referred as the sea gypsies.

And for your information, there have been some Bajau people documented that can hold their breath underwater for minutes, even more than 10 minutes.

You may not had a chance to dive with them. But in case you are interested to see how their daily life and learning how to swim longer without any modern scuba gears, getting to know with the tribe can be your choice and they have also been living in Wakatobi for long time.
